right now?

REAPER and Audacity are alternative ways to record. Pick the one you use. Scrivener references are for writers preparing scripts; performers do not need to own it.

Set recording levels with room to spare

REAPER Mania

Get comfortable with the input meter before recording a scene with quiet lines and loud ones.

REAPER · Mac / Windows; controls may differ

A useful note before you start

Record a representative loud line while setting gain. A track's playback fader is not the same as the interface's input gain.

REAPER Mania

Understand direct monitoring before changing settings at random to chase a delayed headphone signal.

BACK IN YOUR SESSION

Keep the handoff
simple.

Recording spec, naming & pickups →

Keep the original. Save an untouched take before cleanup or processing.

Use the written spec. The default is mono, 48 kHz / 24-bit PCM WAV, without baked-in effects. Your written project brief takes priority.

Export an audio file. A REAPER or Audacity project is useful for editing; it is not the same thing as the WAV someone needs to play.

Keep the performance intact. A breath or pause can belong to the scene. Cleaner does not always mean better.
